It's been a quiet week for shows (I've actually had a weekend off!!!) but a busy time for wool! I had three massive boxes come full of cones of wool.
A lot of my wool comes from charity shops and bootsales, but the majority comes from people I meet at markets. In the 60s came the knitting machine fad. Everyone wanted one, and with it, they bought cones of wool to use. However, the fad ended and they still had the cones, stuffed in a cupboard or in the loft. I buy that wool from them and put it to good use! I like to think of it as upcycling, using something that noone wants to create something new and wonderful.
I've also spent some time finishing off my aran scarves. They're awfully warm and fluffy, and 100% acrylic, for those who have allergies to wool. The 100% acrylic also means that you can shove it in the washing machine with everything else and just wash with no thought. So easy to look after, but I still like the mixed fibres more!
