My parents have had most of a loom sat under their bed for a few years now. We got it from the Portsmouth News as 'free to a good home' on Christmas Eve a few years ago. A great time for it, of course it had to come on the busiest day of the year. We had to take some time out of cooking for the family to traipse off to pick it up. Since then, its been in bits sitting under a bed, forgotten.
I decided I needed a new project, so I got it out and working. I spent the entirety of the Great South Run rubbing oil into the rust and scraping it off. I oiled the wood, got it all together. It needed a new reed and new heddles. All in all, it needed about £100 spent on it from Frank Herring & Sons wonderful establishment.
So now I have a fully working 4 shaft table loom! I've made it so I can travel to shows with it folded down in the back of my camper van. I'm awfully pleased with it!
I've had a wool hunt around the house ad in charity shops and hopefully I have enough to keep me going for a while!
